Short-Term Respite Care
It’s our pleasure to provide short-term respite care for residents who need care for just a few weeks or months. This might be to help you recover from an illness or injury, or give your home carer or family an opportunity for a holiday or some rest, or you might need some short-term emergency low-needs care nursing home accommodation.
We have the flexibility and experienced staff to help you settle in quickly, and ensure that you receive the personalised health and wellbeing care you need, so you can enjoy the activities, programs and relaxed friendly lifestyle at Gracevale Lodge while you stay with us.
With no ACAS assessment, asset calculation, upfront fees or accommodation bond needed, we can accept residents on approved application as soon as suitable accommodation is available, so your family or carer can have peace of mind, knowing that you are comfortable and being cared for in a welcoming and supportive home-like environment.
Respite Care FAQs
What does respite care at Gracevale Lodge involve?
A respite stay comes with the same 24-hour personalised support our permanent residents enjoy — secure medicine management, help with daily personal hygiene, grooming and mobility, nutritious meals and full laundry — plus our full range of in-house and off-site activities, so you can settle in, relax and make the most of your time with us.
How do I know if I need respite care?
Respite care helps in lots of situations: giving your family or carer a chance to rest or take a holiday, supporting your recovery after an illness or operation, providing a safe place to stay in an emergency, or bridging a wait for home modifications. However the need arises, you’ll find a welcoming, inclusive home here — just talk to us and we’ll help you arrange it.
How do I apply for respite care?
There are a few short application forms, and we’re happy to help you complete them. There’s no ACAS assessment, income or asset test, upfront fee or accommodation bond, so we can welcome you on approved application as soon as a suitable room is available. Call us on (03) 5623 1863 and we’ll take it from there.
Can you provide emergency respite care?
Yes — we can often offer emergency short-term accommodation at short notice. Give us a call on (03) 5623 1863 and we’ll help you arrange the care you need as quickly as we can.
How much does it cost, and what does it cover?
You pay a single all-inclusive fee each fortnight, covering all respite care and support, accommodation, meals, laundry, room servicing, use of communal facilities, and all social programs and activities. There’s no upfront fee or accommodation bond, and the fee doesn’t depend on any income or asset calculation or ACAS assessment.
Who qualifies for respite care?
Respite care is a short stay — from a few weeks up to a few months — for people in their 20s onwards with low-level support needs, and those who are aged or frail and can no longer manage at home. If you’re not sure whether it suits your situation, talk to us and we’ll help you work it out.
Can my family and friends visit?
Of course — visitors are always welcome between 8am and 8pm each day, and there are plenty of quiet indoor and outdoor sitting areas to enjoy together. Guests are welcome to join us for a meal, and residents are welcome to head out with their visitors too (we just ask that you let us know when you leave).
What do I need to bring?
We provide all bed linen, towels and laundry, so you only need your clothes and a blanket. Rooms are fully furnished — bed, armchair, bedroom furniture, wardrobe and shelving — so you can move in with a suitcase, and you’re welcome to bring photos and ornaments to make the space your own.
